Gym Class Heroes - Stereo Hearts (ft. Adam Levine) Animated Music Video

OVERVIEW

Gym Class Heroes was looking for an animated music video to commemorate the 10th anniversary of their 2011 hit Stereo Hearts (ft. Adam Levine). I illustrated the video elements in Adobe Illustrator and animated in Adobe After Effects.

ROLE

I worked as the designer and animator on a team with two project managers and one mentor from the record label. Throughout the project, my role involved:

  • Brainstorming, ideating, and developing the music video narrative for fan engagement

  • Consistently meeting with company stakeholders to understand project needs

  • Identifying, researching, and implementing relevant design trends towards aesthetic decisions

  • Illustrating cohesive backgrounds, character and prop designs, and typographical elements

  • Creating seamless animations using motion graphics and frame-by-frame animation techniques

  • Editing final video for YouTube

  • Editing social assets for Spotify Canvas, Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok, Facebook

THE CHALLENGE

Due to the nature of the music industry, the timeline (9 weeks) in which we were working was very tight. Based on stakeholder needs (Business and Legal Affairs, Artist Management, A&R Teams, and Marketing) across the company, I compiled my research and identified creative, marketing, and business goals.

How might I increase fan engagement by leveraging nostalgic memories of the band while staying consistent with their (very different) present-day branding?
